CATCH UP!
Last night, we stayed up late watching Love Is Blind, and I have a little bit of regret. It goes against my very self-imposed rule of “no tv, only reading before bed" on weeknights. And although it felt like my soul needed it at the time (I was also very sucked into the drama, there are some MEAN GIRLS this season), I woke up much later than I wanted to this morning, didn’t make it to any workout classes, and continued on my pattern of slower paced days.
I think it’s time to give my booty a little kick and get going with my work ethic, as we have some travel coming up, and I’m going to need to hunker down and get shit done! Grant’s parents are coming into town, and we are taking them to Joshua Tree, and then not long after that, we go to Denver for a wedding! I’ve never been to Denver, so if you have any recs, send them my way!
I’ve also really missed gardening, so I think I’m going to pick back up on that habit when we get back. Part of my “slow living” recently has been really trying to prioritize movement and sleep and listening to my body, but between that and working, taking care of my dog, and going to social events, I’ve been finding it a lot harder to fit in time for other leisure activities that require consistency, like gardening. But I know I just need to carve in the time, especially since I know it makes me happy!
THINGS I’M LOVING!
It has been COLD, but the wedding events still go on rain or shine, so I decided it was time to invest in some closed toe dressy shoes. My favorite pair of shoes to wear to weddings are from Madewell, so I basically just bought the closed toe equivalent since I knew they were tried and true. I love the look of these, and I can confirm, they are SO comfy. They were sold out on the Madewell site in my size, so I actually ended up getting them from Amazon!
Hu Chocolate really has the best flavors, and I was surprised to see one the other day I hadn’t tried yet (I bought it immediately): Hazelnut Coffee! I mean, say no more! I love coffee and chocolate AND hazelnut and chocolate so…. this flavor is a dream!
Confession: I’m almost done with Lessons In Chemistry and haven’t completely finished, but I do think the writing is really clever and humorous, and I think I will enjoy the way it ends, so I’m recommending it early! I also think a lot of people in my circle will enjoy this book, since it has to do with cooking, but also feminism, smart women, and critiques on society!
RECIPE!
I love that so many of my staple foods are becoming trendy (hi tinned fish and cottage cheese). I’ve always been a sardine or canned tuna girl, but I have to say, I’m becoming more and more of a smoked trout stan. And Grant, who is the pickier seafood eater, agrees. We’ve really been enjoying smoked trout, and even though it’s a budget-friendly way to eat fish, it is still so delicious.
This salad has smoked trout, arugula, a bunch of veggies, capers, and a Greek yogurt Dijon mustard vinaigrette. It’s a year-round classic, and I hope it inspires you to break out that tinned fish! I’m a big fan of Fishwife’s Smoked Trout, but they also have a really good smoked trout at Trader Joe’s as well!
(If you want more smoked trout recipes, I also have an amazing smoked trout dip recipe here)!

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT!
Last week, paid subscribers received a recipe for Hot Honey Chicken Cutlets with a lemony celery kale slaw! I love this recipe soooo much. I’m such a sucker for a spicy sweet chicken, and the little salad on the side pairs perfectly with it. Subscribe to get this recipe and all the others in the members-only archive!
