Happy Friday! It feels like the week went by so quick!
I’m still thinking about this week’s recipe, probably because it’s a bit of a fresh one for me! I have never been a big burger girl, so it was only recently that I discovered smash-style burgers through my husband Grant. A burger was a burger in my mind, except I now know that is absolutely not true (my apologies for the misguided assumptions, burger lovers).
Smash burgers are quite literally the opposite of a thick and juicy burger. They’re burgers that have been smashed flat on the grill or skillet to create a thin patty that’s browned and crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. Typically, several patties are stacked together, often with layers of cheese in the middle. There are plenty of places in LA that serve smash burgers (Burgers Never Say Die, Goldburger), but you might be familiar with the smash burgers at Shake Shack as well!
Grant and I sometimes make smash burger bowls at home because I find them quick and easy to prepare, but I spiced things up this week by giving our burger bowls a Mediterranean flare! I used ground lamb instead of ground beef, added a delicious, tangy lemon feta sauce, grilled up some onions, and added some roasted sweet potatoes for extra veggies in an attempt to channel the vibe of sweet potato fries! It’s a full-balanced meal that feels as indulgent as it does nutritious! I loved the way the lamb paired with everything, and it was a fun twist on a burger meal.
